Slavonia is a geographical and historical region in eastern Croatia. It is a fertile region that stretches from the Ilova River in the west, over the Sava and Drava basins to the Hungarian border in the north.It is the most fertile part of Croatia which, in addition to its agricultural values, also offers diverse tourism attractions.

Administratively, it consists of the following counties: Vukovar–Srijem; Virovitica–Podravina; Pozega-Slavonia; Osijek-Baranja; and Brod-Posavina.

Osijek, located on the banks of the river Danube is the largest city and the economic and cultural centre of Slavonia, as well as the administrative center of the Osijek-Baranja county. With a population of 114,616, it is the fourth largest city in Croatia. It is also a great destination for lovers of architecture.

Other major citys are, Slavonski Brod, the second largest city in region, Vinkovci, Vukovar, the heroic city and the biggest river port in Croatia, Virovitica, Pozega, Djakovo,with its glorious neo-Romanesque cathedral, Ilok, surrounded by the magnificent vineyards and wine roads.

This region, and especially Osijek, is well connected with the rest of the country. Lot of trains and buses operate between Zagreb and Osijek daily. If you use the modern motorway from Zagreb, you will reach Osijek in 2.5 hours. Osijek has an international airport.
